Why I love Cable Bicep Curls

Cable Bicep curls have been in my program for years at this point and they have never let me down and there is a reason I always return to them.

User friendly.

Cables have always been a great choice for all gym goers no matter your experience, they are easy to wrap your head around and they offer quick weight selection and takes literally seconds to set up and perform your set. It's also a great way to practice and perform more technical training systems like drop sets without taking up half the dumbbell rack.

Progressive overload.

Progressive overload is one of the fundamental aspects of building muscle, and cables offer a great way to achieve this, cables are good way to visualise progress and most cables offer small increments to increase weight which is ideal for long term progress and avoiding injury, furthermore, for most cables you can grab a small plate of 1.25kg and attach it to the weight stack for even smaller adjustments in weight, which is what I do every pull session.

Constant and consistent tension.

The range of motion and line of pull the cables offer mean there is constant tension in both the concentric (contracting phase) and the eccentric (Lengthening phase) of the movement, the fixed path of the cable also means less momentum is used to get the weight up which is great for really the targeted muscle.

Overall Cable Biceps might not be the best bicep exercise out there but for their speed, ability to simply and effectively apply progressive overload and the constant tension through out the movement have made them a staple in my program and I think they are a great way to grow your biceps!
